Billing Specialist

The Billing Specialist will perform various technical job functions associated with the accurate and timely
billing of medications and related products while exhibiting a high degree of accuracy and ethics in their
work.

Responsibilities:
• HIPAA and FWA compliance
• Access, input, and retrieve billing related information from the pharmacy software systems
• Answer phones and follow up on calls and/or direct to appropriate persons
• Maintain and update payer information as needed
• Process prescriptions to appropriate third parties for payment
• Maintain daily census and accurate method of payment information
• Prepare and review various pre-billing and post-billing reports and follow up with corrections as
needed
• Prepare accurate and timely end of month bills and statements
• Assist with collections as needed
• Participate in staff development by training others as needed
• Assist in documentation gathering for audits
• Special projects as assigned
• Prepare daily anniversaries
• Process prior authorizations daily
• Analyze rejects and process corrections as needed on a daily basis
• Assist with follow up on Medicaid Pending Approvals
• Submit request from BAE and LIS reports monthly
• Assist other departments with unbilled claims
• Regularly document accurate and complete notes within the pharmacy system
• Assist manager a team-members as needed

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
• Must possess a strong work ethic
• Must have strong problem-solving skills
• Ability to work effectively with executives, supervisors/managers, co-workers, customers,
insurance companies, government entities, residents and their family members
• Must demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Products
• Must be organized, professional, and exhibit a positive attitude
• Must be a Team Player, have a can-do attitude, be flexible, honest, and self-motivated
Minimum Qualifications:
• 2-years previous pharmacy billing technician experience preferred
• IL Pharmacy Technician License
• Pharmacy Technician Certification (or grandfathered)
