POSITION DESCRIPTION: Pharmacy Order Entry Technician
The Order Entry Pharmacy Technician will assist the pharmacist by performing various routine technical job functions while exhibiting a high degree of accuracy and ethics in their work.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Order Entry Supervisor
Works with: UVANTA Pharmacy Team Members, Affiliates, Client Facilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsibilities
Perform all functions related to the preparation and dispensing of prescriptions accurate and timely input of physician orders into the pharmacy computer system.
Access, input, update patient’s profile and retrieve information on the pharmacy computer system including medications, allergies, and all ancillary orders
Maintain and process medical records
Answer phone and customer service using effective communication skills
Verify that physician orders are accurate and complete
Clarify with facility nurses and obtain any missing information from nurses as needed
Input new orders and refill requests based upon priority and delivery schedule
Assist with pharmacy workflow
Process prescriptions to appropriate third parties for payment
Participate in development of training other staff as necessary
NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Ability to work effectively with executives, managers, supervisors, customers, employees, and vendors
Ability to maintain accurate, complete and confidential records
Ability to efficiently complete multiple tasks
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word
Strong written and oral communication skills
Basic math and analytical skills
Must be able to travel on an “as-needed” basis
Team player, can-do attitude, flexible, honest, self-motivated
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
2 years previous pharmacy technician experience
Pharmacy order entry experience preferred
Current Pharmacy Technician License (certified or grandfathered)
Familiarity with various software programs, preferably those currently used in LTC pharmacy
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT OR RESTRICTIONS:
The majority of work is performed in a professional pharmacy setting and is generally active, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, sitting, and carrying of items weighing less than 40lbs. Travel on aircraft may be required.
